Signature vs handwriting

Graphologists say your signature shows your public self (how you want to be seen), while your normal handwriting shows your everyday self. A signature very different from your handwriting is read as a gap between the two.

What does science say?

Controlled studies have not found that graphology reliably predicts personality, so treat these readings as interesting tradition, not facts about you. What is clear is practical: a consistent, confident, partly readable signature is easier to verify and harder to forge.

Frequently asked questions

Can a signature reveal personality?
Graphology claims it can, but scientific studies haven't confirmed it. Enjoy it as tradition, not as a test.
What does an unreadable signature mean?
Traditionally, privacy. In practice it often just means someone signs very often and very fast.
